C.A.R.E.S. Program Materials

Drug Awareness Prevention Program (DAPP), a wellness curriculum, is an 8-part program for children pre-kindergarten through third grade. It is used by teachers, child care workers, elementary school counselors, after-school program leaders, and prevention specialists.

The "No Use" Drug Awareness Prevention Program (DAPP) is an inclusive, easy-to-use, character building, violence prevention program. The eight session program promotes self-understanding, respect, empathy, positive behaviors, coping skills, resiliency, social competence, responsibility, problem solving skills, refusal skills, and healthy living habits.

"I am very excited about DAPP. It is a comprehensive, motivating, self-esteem program..."
- Carol Martin, school counselor
"DAPP was found to be scientifically accurate, in conformance with public health principles and policies, and appropriate for the intended audience."
- Judith E. Funkhouser, Director, National Clearinghouse for Alcohol and Drug Information

  • As a result of the program, teachers and counselors report a decrease in children's aggressive behaviors and an increase in their cooperative behaviors. Results from outcome evaluations show that D.A.P.P. is effective in teaching ALL children, including those identified as being AT-RISK. Click here to see comments from parents and students.

  • Of the 1,500 parents who completed the "Parent Survey," 98% ranked the program as "Helpful" or "Very Helpful." Of the responding parents, 93% agreed that "The Kelly Bear books helped my child and me talk together," while 99% agreed that "Because my child took part in the program, I believe that he/she will be less likely to use drugs."
